A Trio of Honors

Alfa Romeo 4C is snatching up awards

January 14, 2015

Less than a year since the all-new Alfa Romeo 4C made its North American debut, the supercar has been causing a stir in all the right ways. Earning a number of awards proves the return of the iconic Italian brand hasn’t gone unnoticed.

Automobile magazine all-star

With its groundbreaking Italian design and Formula 1 derived innovations, the all-new 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C supercar won over the editorial staff at Automobile magazine, earning the turbocharged mid-engine coupe a coveted “2015 All-Star” award—an accolade that represents what the publication’s enthusiasts most want to drive.

“When you’re out on your favorite stretch of winding road or at the local track blazing away, turbo-four wailing behind your ears, the Alfa Romeo 4C reminds you what it means to drive with joy, with purpose,” Mike Floyd, editor-in-chief, Automobile. “The 4C is an unapologetic sports car and a spectacular-looking one at that—that’s why it’s a 2015 Automobile All-Star.”

Beginning with the 2015 All-Star award, Automobile chooses its vehicle contender list from only all-new, heavily revised, or newly significant variants on sale in the United States for the upcoming model year. Then the brand’s editorial staff spends three days driving the assembled array of all-star contenders and cast their votes for the winners by private ballot.

‘Best Performance, Luxury Car to Buy’ by Motor Authority
The 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C is the “Best Performance and Luxury Car to Buy,” according to Motor Authority, a California-based publication covering the luxury and performance car industry.

“The Alfa Romeo 4C is beautiful, exotic and incredibly fun to drive,” said Motor Authority editor Nelson Ireson. “It’s also a tremendous value, offering a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and turbocharged mid-engine layout around the price of much more ordinary sports cars, including some of those it beat out for the award this year, like the Ford Mustang, as well as more luxurious or practical alternatives like the Porsche Macan and Mercedes-Benz GLA45 AMG.”

“Having the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C named ‘Best Performance and Luxury Car to Buy’ from Motor Authority is an exceptional honor,” Reid Bigland, Head of Alfa Romeo Brand for North America, said. “This accolade speaks to Alfa Romeo brand’s exclusive combination of groundbreaking Italian design and unique technological innovations that highlight more than 100 years of performance and racing know-how. The 4C shifts the performance paradigm in North America, offering driving enthusiasts the passion and exhilaration of an Italian supercar crafted by hand from Formula 1 inspired materials—all at an attainable price”

Popular Mechanics magazine “Sports Car”
The automotive editors of Popular Mechanics magazine awarded the Alfa Romeo 4C with the publication’s 2014 “Sports Car” award. The Alfa Romeo 4C received the honor for its groundbreaking and functional Italian design, ultra-lightweight design and 1750 turbo engine mated to the paddle-shifting Alfa TCT (twin-clutch transmission). Popular Mechanics editors noted “on a twisty road, you think you are driving something that costs three times as much” and called the Alfa Romeo 4C “mid-engine Italian driving nirvana.”

For this year’s Car Awards, the editors at Popular Mechanics got their hands on as many makes and models as they could and drove them all. The editors were looking for new cars that raise the game and standouts that are both excellent to drive and important this year. After lots of deliberation, they arrived at their favorites. The editors noted that “this year was particularly challenging because there are so many incredible cars and trucks.”
